Austrian Romantic Road
Guests who want to explore the full diversity of Austria will be thrilled by the Romantic Road. Like a string of pearls, the 380 kilometre long road leads from Vienna to Salzburg through Upper and Lower Austria. You will be able to see some of the most beautiful spots in Austria along the way. In addition to picturesque castles, fortified fortresses and a unique natural landscape, the many places worth seeing make this route particularly romantic. But this path also has a lot to offer for culture lovers and those interested in history. Augustinians and Benedictines settled at important, distinctive waypoints.
Impressive monasteries that served both science and the word of God, still bear witness to their work today. The towns of Kremsmünster, St. Florian and the Benedictine monastery Stift Gottweig bear special mention in this context. In addition, traces of the Romans, who set up their camps here and named places such as Enns or Wels, can be found along some sections of the path. Nature lovers, on the other hand, should consider a longer stay at the Wachau. It is one of the most beautiful river valleys in Europe and offers a wildly romantic view of beautiful castles and mysterious ruins.
The Salzkammergut with its scenic attractions is one of the most beautiful and popular holiday regions in Austria. The extensive area stretches over three federal states: Styria, Salzburg and Upper Austria. Situated between the Alps and their foothills, hikers, cyclists and nature lovers will find a picturesque natural landscape here. The striking limestone mountains, as well as the numerous rivers, streams and lakes give this holiday destination a unique charm. The Almtal-Salzkammergut, Lake Wolfgangsee and the Attergau, as well as idyllic Lake Traunsee are very popular with travellers.
The best accommodation is needed to give you the energy so you can explore all the highlights of the Austrian Romantic Road. The modern studios of the newly opened Seeresidenz Danninger Gmunden let you rest after an eventful day, to gather new strength for the further round trip. In particular the view of the picturesque Schloss Ort, which you can enjoy from your room, will compensate you for the “travel exertion”. One major advantage of our accommodation is its location on the popular Romantic Road – at the Salzkammergut station. You can book a single overnight stay here. This is of particular interest for those who want to explore the Austrian Romantic Road on a round trip. You will be happy to hear that we relieve you of the annoying car parking search. Our house has its own car park.
The favourable location of the Seeresidenz Danninger Gmunden lets you explore the old town of Gmunden comfortably on foot. The Seeschloss Ort is the landmark of the popular town of Traunsee. It has been rebuilt several times over the centuries, first mentioned as “Veste Ort” in a document from 909 AD. The splendid building, picturesquely situated on a small island, is likely to be particularly popular with television viewers, as the successful German-Austrian television show “Schlosshotel Orth” was filmed here. Fans of the show “Vier Frauen und ein Todesfall” as well as the episodes of “Lilly Schönauer” are also likely to experience some déjà vu when visiting the castle.
The crowning glory of the evening at the Gmunden Festival of Lights offers a special treat to its guests with its unique fireworks that are lit on pontoons right on Lake Traunsee. The 20-minute spectacle is devised, planned, organised and carried out by Traunsee-Fireworks-GmbH, founded for this specific purpose. Weeks of programming work precede this “pyrotechnic ballet”, in which the flashing of the individual rockets is timed precisely to the beat of the accompanying music. There is also a musical motto of the fireworks, but that remains – like every year – secret until the end.
Do you have a secret that you would like to entrust to your beloved this evening? An evening like this is ideal for romance! Lake Traunsee is wonderfully illuminated by countless light boats, the fairy tale-like fireworks above: The scenery for a romantic marriage proposal could hardly be more beautiful!
Take the opportunity! It only comes once a year. Seeresidenz Danninger welcomes you to a memorable summer weekend at Gmunden’s festively decorated lake!
